Obituary

Carl D. Hoyt, 77, died Nov. 22, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born March 2, 1931, in Dexter, the son of Orval and Jennita Ruth Marker Hoyt, from the age of 19 months, he was raised by Ray and Lena Cheever. He graduated from Louisburg High School, attended the University of Kansas, then later graduated from Salt City Business College, and Hutchinson Community College. A resident of Hutchinson most of his adult life, he worked in the accounting field, owned and operated C&S Cafe, South Hutchinson, and after retiring worked for Northgate Dillons.

He belonged to the First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson Breakfast Lions Club, and the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 982. He served in the U.S. Navy for seven years.

On Aug. 16, 1953, he married Shirley Mills in Honolulu, Hawaii. She survives. Other survivors include: a son, Jeff, Buhler; a daughter, Cindy Ryan, St. John; a grandson, Allen Adams, Valley Center; two great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepparents, Stella Hoyt and Johnny Parks, and Ray and Lena Cheever, and a daughter, Judith.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 26, 2008, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 25, 2008, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Breakfast Lions Club, Loyal Order of the Moose No. 982 or the donor's choice, all in care of the mortuary.
