Carl R. Johnson, 79, died March 18, 2014, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born April 3, 1934, in Hutchinson, to Henry A. and Elsie B. Hoskinson Johnson.

He married Mary Jo Sargent on April 5, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She survives. Carl was in the Kansas Air National Guard for 29 years and spent 4 years in the United States Air Force. After retirement, he farmed along side his son, Gary, in Burrton for many years. Survivors include: his wife, Jo Johnson of Burrton; sons, Steve Johnson and wife Jean-Marie of Haven, Gary Johnson and wife Jo of Burrton; grandchildren, Staci Pankratz and husband Scott of Hutchinson, Kyle Johnson and wife Mackenzie of Goddard, Kevin Johnson of Wichita, Becky Broadhurst and husband J.R. of Burrton, Kristi Broome and husband Chris of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Emma, Elsie, Jade, Megan, Aubri, and Isabella; and a sister, Veda Paul and husband Lester of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Earl and Eugene Johnson.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Burrton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kim Benson presiding. Burial will be in the Valley Township Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by Kansas Air National Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
