CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Carl "Harold" Horst Obermite, 85, died May 30, 2007, at Christus Spohn Hospital South, Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was born July 3, 1921, in Neu-Pillkaller, Ostpreussen, East Prussia, Germany, the son of Eduard and Emma Thieler Obermeit. He moved to the United States in 1956, and was a longtime resident of Inman and Hutchinson, moving to Corpus Christi in 1987. He was a design engineer for Cessna Aircraft Co., retiring in 1986, after 30 years.
He was a German Soldier Veteran of World War II and a POW for 4 years in Russia.
On Aug. 25, 1950, he married Frieda Hann in Grafenwoehr, Bavaria, Germany. She died Jan. 1, 1972. In 1992, he married Warlita "Warlie" S. Pammit in Corpus Christi, Texas. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Heinz, Hollywood, Calif., Robert, Hutchinson, and Richard, Taegu, South Korea; two daughters, Edith Pierson, South Hutchinson, and Lyn Robertson, Kingsville, Texas; two brothers, Gerhard, Waycross, Ga., and Hans-Joachim, Hallstadt, Germany; two sisters, Elfriede Frank and Doris Hering, both of Munich, Germany; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anni Obermite.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in North Inman Cemetery, with Father Stuart M. Smelzter presiding. Friends may sign the register from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
