Carol Weston Smith, 83, died January 19, 2012, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
He was born June 11, 1928, in Hutchinson, to Reed Q. and Ida Maye Coberly Smith.
He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1945, and later from Salt City Business School. He served as Corporal in the United States Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1947.
Carol was a retired firefighter after 25 years, where he received an award for heroism for saving a child from a burning house. He also retired from Polk Publishing after 11 years and worked at Terry Messing Real Estate for five years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, and was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2550, and the Loyal Order of the Moose #982.
He married Ruby Belle Spurgin on June 6, 1957, in Clovis, N.M. She died January 21, 2009.
Survivors include: son, Jeff Smith (Linda) and daughter, Jackie Lamkin; sister, Sherry Brooks (Jess); brothers, Wallace Smith (Mae), and Ronald Smith (Cathy), all of Hutchinson; brother, Roy Smith of Richfield, MN; six grandchildren, Katherine Lamkin (Ben), Jon Lamkin (Raelynn), Spencer Smith (Amy), Stuart Smith, Steele Smith (Lane), and Daphne Smith; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Melvin Walton officiating. Visitation will be 9-9 Sunday with the family to receive friends from 6-8 at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Firemen's Relief Association, or American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary.
