Cecyle V. Bennett McGonigle HawkCecyle V. Bennett McGonigle Hawk, 96, died October 31, 2008, at Lyons District Hospital, Lyons, KS.
She was born May 24, 1912, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Ora Ross and Lena Elizabeth Davies Bennett.
A resident of Lyons she had formerly lived in Ellsworth, Rice and Reno Counties, living mostly in Nickerson. She graduated from Nickerson Rural High School in 1929. She then attended Wichita Business School. She worked as a dental assistant and physicians attendant.
She was a member of Geneseo United Methodist Church and the Salem Community Church of the Brethren. She was also a lifetime member of the Chapter Q PEO of Nickerson, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of the Stone Corral Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Lyons and the Mary Walker Tent No. 35 Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Hutchinson.
On February 20, 1932, she married Wilbur Samuel "Bud" McGonigle at Preston, KS, by her grandfather William Luther Davies. Bud died June 21, 1952, in a farm accident at Nickerson. She then married Chesley Noel Hawk on September 21, 1960, in Nickerson. He died April 8, 1994, in Nickerson.
Survivors include: three daughters, Janis Kay Norquist and partner Gary Wage of Grand Junction, Colo., Janet Fay Ritcha and husband Bill of Geneseo, KS, and Beth Ruan Boeka of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren, Bret Norquist and wife Gay, Bart Norquist, Tamise Schwan and husband Kerry, Tod Ritcha and wife Cindy, Krystal Doyle and husband Rod, and Derek Boeka; great-grandchildren, Kara Norquist, Ryan Norquist, Matthew Schwan, Rene Schwan, Jeffrey Ritcha, Brandon Ritcha, Michelle Ritcha, Cody Langley, Kylie Langley, Dylan Boeka and Dallas Boeka; and a great-great-granddaughter Kirstin Langley.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Gwendolyn Milsap and a stepbrother, Charles Bowden.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 4, 2008, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dr. Robin McGonigle presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.
