Charlene M. Lind died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born December 23, 1932, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Francis and Lucille Mordy. She was a 1950 graduate of Manhattan High School and a 1954 graduate of Kansas State University. She was a business teacher at Dickinson County Community High School from 1954 through 1959. She received her masters degree from the University of Wisconsin in June of 1960.
On August 19, 1961, she married Robert R. Lind in Hutchinson, Kansas. He survives. A Hutchinson resident since 1960, moving from Madison, Wisconsin, she was a business teacher and department chairman at Hutchinson High School until she retired in 1994.
She was very active in the Kansas Vocational Association and Business Professionals of America. She started the Office Education Program at Hutchinson High School in 1968 and had students place in Kansas competitive events every year. They competed in national competition every year except one and she had at least one national winner each year. In 1987, she was selected as Master Teacher of the Year at the high school level and placed in the top six as a candidate for Kansas Teacher of the Year in 1988.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on various boards and committees. While attending Kansas State University she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and was very active in student government and YWCA. She was a member of Chimes and Mortar Board, which membership is based on campus involvement and academic achievements. She continued to be involved in local projects throughout her teaching career.
In accordance with Charlene's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Friends may sign her register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
