"Bob" Cottle
July 9, 1923 – July 19, 2021
Charles Robert "Bob" Cottle, 98, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 9, 1923, in rural Hutchinson, to James O. and Lillie Ann (Owings) Cottle.
Bob was a 1940 graduate of Waverly High School and a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson. He served in the United States Army, and was wounded while serving in Italy, 10 th Mountain Division. Bob appreciated the care he received while recovering at Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado.
Bob was a rural letter carrier for 37 years in the Hutchinson area. Memberships include the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Disabled Veterans, and Rural Letter Carriers Associations. He was an avid boating and fisherman, camper, and gardener.
On August 30, 1945, Bob married Edna Nelson. They shared 60 years of marriage, before she died December 29, 2005. On January 30, 2006, he married Doris Ann Avery, in Hutchinson.
Bob is survived by: his wife of 15 years, Doris of Hutchinson; daughter, Cheryl Chambers and husband Jim of Hutchinson; grandson, Marc Chambers of Kansas City; great-grandsons, Tyler and Chase Chambers; stepson, Wayne Swenson of Hutchinson; step-granddaughters, Lyndsey Yoder and husband Derick, and Emily Swenson; step-great- granddaughters, Alexis, Lilly, Julie and Adison Yoder; best friends and neighbors, Charles and Nancy Tucker; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister; and four brothers.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Dr. Mark Glover presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. To view Bob's funeral service online, click the link below.
