Obituary

Charles N. Brown died Oct. 23, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 24, 1936, in Hutchinson, to Charles N. and Gertrude Porter Brown.

A 1954 graduate of Hutchinson High School and a 1956 graduate of Hutchinson Community College, Charles served in the United States Navy as a Helicopter Pilot, achieving the rank of Lt. J.G., from 1957-1962.

He married Suzanne Sentney on Dec. 30, 1961, in Hutchinson and graduated from Wichita State Univeristy in 1964 with a BS business degree. Charles was employed by the First National Bank of Hutchinson from 1964-1974 and later was the President of Salt City Federal Savings and Loan and First Federal Savings and Loan from 1974-1990. He was the President and Owner of Reno County Abstract and Title since 1991. Charles was a Hutchinson Community College Endowment Board member, serving on the finance and scholarship committees, and was named the HCC Endowment Association Outstanding Alumni of the year in 2007. He was the President of the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce in 1980, a charter member of Ducks Unlimited, Hutchinson Chapter, he also served on many boards and associations for Hutchinson nonprofit organizations.

Charles is survived by his widow, Suzanne, of the home; a daughter, Heather Holland (Michael) and a son, Todd Brown (Heather) all of Hutchinson; six grandchildren, Eric, Hollyann, and Haley Holland, and Bretley, Easton, and Averie Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Porter K. Brown.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rt. Rev. Michael P. Milliken presiding. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Naval Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County or Grace Episcopal Church in care of the mortuary.
