Charles T. Ebmeier, 67, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 3, 1948, in Lincoln, Neb., the oldest of seven children to Morris A. and Norma (Remmers) Ebmeier.
He moved to rural Laurel, Neb., when he was 3, attended O'Gara Hillside Grade School, a one-room schoolhouse, and Laurel High School, graduating in 1966. In 1968, Charles married Claudette Dirks. They later divorced. In 1974, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and remained a proud Cornhusker his entire life. In August 1974, he began teaching Vocational Auto Mechanics at Hutchinson Vo-Tech school, where he loved teaching for 38 years.
On Sept. 3, 1983, Charles married Janice Gifford Flynn. She survives. Other survivors include: children, Dawn (Jim) Casey of Laurel, Neb., Wendi (Steve) Schutte of Dixon, Neb., Christopher (Tiffany) Flynn of Hutchinson, Zachary (Robin) Ebmeier of Hutchinson, Nicolee (Brent) Wyman of South Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren, Julia, Calvin, Nolan, Anna and Kolby Casey, of Laurel, Neb., Demi, Karissa, Jozie, Katie and Mollie Schutte, of Dixon, Neb., Jeremy, Jenna, Joey and Jake Keil, of Topeka; siblings, James (Dianne) Ebmeier of Glenwood, Iowa, Mark (Monica) Ebmeier of Laurel, Neb., Mary (Joel) Onnen of Omaha, Neb., Lynda ( Troy) Lehl of Lincoln, Neb.; brother-in-law, Mike Dickmeyer of Omaha, Neb.; brother and sister-in-law, Ed (June) Gifford of Manhattan, Kan.; many nieces and nephews; and 31 foster children. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Richard Ebmeier; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Joe Betz; sister-in-law, Judi Dickmeyer; grandson, Jonathan Flynn.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastors Tim Carey and Christopher Flynn presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m., with the family to receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
