Obituary

Charles Kent Hatfield, 91, passed away Jan. 2, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

A longtime Hutchinson resident, for the last 15 months, he resided at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson.

Kent was born in Kinsley, Kan., to Charlie and Glenna (Eslinger) Hatfield Nov. 6, 1921.

He married Ruth Mircheff June 16, 1944, in Chattanooga, Tenn. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 2010.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a proud graduate of Kansas State University. His life's work was in agriculture, and he farmed in Edwards County, Kan., and worked for Farmland Industries, Moundridge Co-op, and retired from Beattie Co-op. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. Kent is survived by three daughters, Georgene (Ronald) Karst, Charlotte Hatfield, Ph.D., and Kristen (Brent) Anderson; five grandchildren, Andrew (Samantha Hyatt) Karst, Jonathan (Michele) Karst, Elizabeth (Justin) Alexander, Tracee (James) Sowers, and Todd (Sarah Hassan) Anderson; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary and the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to service time on Monday.
