YODER - Charles G. Meadows, Jr., 83, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011.
He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Yoder, the son of Charles Grover and Ida Blanche Wilson Meadows, Sr.
He was a 1945 graduate of Haven High School, a member of National League of Postmasters, Kansas and their chaplain. Charles enjoyed a variety of pastime activities including, playing horseshoes, fishing, hunting, camping, HCC basketball, the grandkids sporting events and activities, church league softball games and card playing with his brother-in-laws. He had been a meat cutter for nineteen years at Roth Food Locker, Yoder then was the postmaster in Yoder for thirty-three years retiring in 1997.
On May 16, 1954, he was married to Gladys Marie Yutzy by her father at Yoder Mennonite Church. She survives.
Other survivors include their children and their spouses: Lyndon and Patches, South Hutchinson, Gerald and Lori, Sterling, Pam and Loren Morris, Hutchinson, and Juli and Perry Winter, Newton; a sister, Mary Janzen, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Maxine Meadows, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Harold and William and a sister, Wilma Anderson.
A private graveside at Yoder Cemetery will be prior to a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at South Hutchinson Mennonite Church, with Pastor Jim Unruh officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Mennonite Church, 1403 S. Main, South Hutchinson.
Memorial gifts may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Mennonite Manor, in care of the mortuary.
