Charles Daniel Schmucker, 102, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born February 8, 1909, at Sterling, the son of Joel E. and Eva Mae Klingman Schmucker.
He was a 1927 graduate of Nickerson Rural High School, attended Hutchinson Community College, was a member of Park Place Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, was Vice President of Marketing, Dillon Companies, and had been involved with various community boards and efforts in Hutchinson.
On August 4, 1936, he married Helen Elizabeth Railsback in Hutchinson. She died May 4, 1992.
Survivors and their spouses include: a son, C. Paul, Soldotna, Alaska; a daughter, Carol and Richard Arms, Leawood; two grandchildren, Julie and Daniel Roberts, Soldotna, Alaska, and Paul D. Schmucker, Pasadena, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Leore and Avi Arms, Noelle and Nicolas Roberts; and caregiver of 28 years, Clara Miller, Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Eldon and Roy, a grandson, David L. Arms, and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Schmucker.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, Hutchinson, with Rev. Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Calling hours will be 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory. The family will be present at Park Place Christian Church, 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the church, Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, Tennyson Center for Children at Colorado Christian Home, Denver, or Hutchinson Community College Endowment Association for Helen Schmucker Scholarship Fund, in care of the mortuary.
