Obituary

Charles Fredrick Wehmeyer, 85, died Jan. 19, 2011, at Promise Regional Hospital, Hutchinson.

He was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., to Edmond H. and Vivian G. Young Wehmeyer.

He was a 1943 graduate of Chanute High School.

He married Marjorie Ann Brack and later married Nellie V. Taylor.

He retired after 23 years from the Navy, serving in WWII and Korea. He is a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and also a member of Moose Lodge #982, V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Amvets and Fleet Reserves. He worked as an Engineer and Surveyor for the City of Hutchinson, Bauch Berg and Holcomb Company and Shears Company.

Survivors include: daughters, Loxi Sykes and husband Bill of McAlester, Okla., Kimberly Raigoza and husband Greg of Hutchinson, Regena Raigoza and husband Chris of Hutchinson, Deseree Krause of Olathe; son, Wesley Wehmeyer of Wichita; brother, Hank Wehmeyer of Ark.; sisters, Florence Andrews of Wichita and Martha Kilgore of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Vivian, Marjorie Fraser, Nellie Wehmeyer and great-granddaughter Haley Ann Barlow.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Fairlawn Burial Park with Pastor Chris Raigoza presiding. Military honors will be conducted by United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation times will be Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, all at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Harmony Baptist Church in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
