Charlie E. Sallee, 70, died March 29, 2012, at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita. He was born July 2, 1941, in Chadwick, Mo., the son of Herman and Viola (Pruitt) Sallee.
He was a machinist, working for Cessna and Eaton Corps., retiring after 32 years. Charlie was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member and past president of the Mid-State Street Rods, a member of the International Association of Machinists, the Young At Hearts and volunteered with the Reno County Sheriff's Department. Charlie loved to work on cars, and was an outgoing and fun loving father and grandfather who loved to spend time with family, friends and church members.
On May 17, 1958, he married Roberta D. Emrie at First Baptist Church in Stafford, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Donita Zarnowski and husband Tom, and Kathaleen Davis and husband Todd, all of Hutchinson; a brother, Norman Sallee and wife Janette of Prague, Okla.; a sister, Maxine Armbrust and husband Kenneth of McPherson; four grandchildren, Chad Mendenhall, Crystal Russell, Catie Schrader, and Nate Davis; two step grandchildren, Tonya Hornback and Trina Zarnowski; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Sallee; mother, Viola Stogsdill; stepfather, Clyde Stogsdill; and a brother, Dean Sallee and wife Pearl.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Willard Stafford presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson.
