Charlotte Bertha Ringer Regehr died Sept. 6, 2009, at Hester Care Center, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 15, 1922, to Charles and Bertha Bower Ringer near Quinter, Kan.
Her ready smile and positive attitude were a source of strength to all who knew her. Charlotte graduated from St. Elizabeth Nursing School and worked many years at St. Elizabeth in the new mother ward.
She was always amazed when a woman would come up to her and say, "You were my nurse when . . . was born and now he/she is in college!" She saw so many; sorry, she couldn't remember all your names.
She married Alvin Regehr in 1962 and became stepmother to Gerri. This was a happy time in her life.
She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church and attended the DUO Sunday school class. Charlotte's favorite vacation was a bus tour to anywhere in the country. She had seen all 50 states in the union.
Survivors include: her stepdaughter, Gerri Lyon, W. Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Louise Kiel and husband Marvin, Houston, Texas; sister-in-law Ruth Ringer, Hutchinson; nephew, Gary Wheeler, Hutchinson, and his son, Matt, Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous other loving nieces and nephews and two step-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Wallace Ringer; two half sisters, Edna Ringer and Nettie Wheeler.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell, Trinity United Methodist Church presiding. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
Memorials may be sent to Wesley Towers Student Nurse Scholarship or Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
