Obituary

OVERLAND PARK – Cheryl L. Severtson-Stuifbergen, 64, died May 17, 2017, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.

She was born April 18, 1953, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Burman B. and Verna B. (Doerksen) Severtson. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1971. She received a bachelor's degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University and a bachelor's degree in Education from Wichita State University.

She was a horticulturist, loved gardening, and worked at garden centers most of her life.

On Nov. 22, 1997, Cheryl married Piet Stuifbergen in Wichita. He survives.

Other survivors include: sons, Nathaniel Parker and wife Nao of Silver Spring, MD, and Matthew Parker-O'Brien and wife Rani of Culver City, CA; twin sister, Carol Thayer and husband Robert of Hutchinson; and brother, Steven Severtson of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Karla Vonachen; and niece, Audrey Rose Vonachen.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery presiding. Burial will follow in McPherson City Cemetery, McPherson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Cause For Paws or New Beginnings, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson.
