Chris Gordon Cummings, 60, died September 6, 2013, at his home in Hutchinson after a lengthy battle with diabetes. He was born December 28, 1952, in Hutchinson, to Chester G. and Eugenia M. (Eilts) Cummings.
Chris graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1971, and graduated from McPherson College in 1975, with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He taught high school history in Hillsboro until his retirement in 1994, at which time he moved to Hutchinson. He was a member of Community Church of the Brethren, where he taught an adult Sunday school class. He enjoyed his morning coffee group with Hutchinson High School alumni and teachers. Chris was a lover of animals and the Bible.
Survivors include: his mother, Eugenia M. Cummings, Hutchinson; sister, Judi Swink and husband Hugh, Lenexa; nephew, Michael Swink, Arlington, Va; and niece, Jaime Swink, Venice, Ca.
Chris was preceded in death by his father Chester "Chet" Cummings and his beloved cat, Frannie.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Community Church of the Brethren, with Marlo Oltman and Ed Switzer officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Church of the Brethren, or Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
