Obituary

Christine C. Carter, 92, died April 12, 2013, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. She was born March 5, 1921, to Nicholas and Gertrude Hommertzheim Schoenecker in Sedgwick County, near Schulte. She moved with her family to Kingman County in 1926, south of St. Leo, Kan. Christine went to grade school in Andale, Kan., living with her Aunt Anna Hommertzheim for several years. Christine married John Kimminau, of Kingman, on May 8, 1945. He died June 22, 1966. She then married Earl Hoffman, of Kingman, on May 25, 1969. He died October 7, 1982. On Sept. 26, 1986, she married Joe K. Carter of Hutchinson. He died April 23, 2005.

Christine belonged to the Church of the Holy Cross, the Saint Veronica Circle of the Altar Society in Hutchinson, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in Kingman, Ladies of the Moose Chapter #1371 in Hutchinson. She belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary in Kingman and volunteered in its thrift store New To You. She was a cook at St. Patrick's School in Kingman. Christine was active at Elmdale Senior Center in Hutchinson and was one of the original Crochet Angels.

She is survived by: brother, Joseph Schoenecker of Benedict, Kan.; sisters, Josephine Blanchat, Sister Mary Schoenecker of Wichita, Betty Smith of Kingman, Bertha Zogleman of Florence; stepdaughters, Shelley Stephens of Hutchinson and Jo Bailey of Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Kelsey Schneider, Los Angeles, and Kristin Hoffman of Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews, including, David Hayes of Kingman, Jeanette Vierthaler of Hutchinson, and Charles Hoffman of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Barthel Schoenecker and Peter Schoenecker; sisters, Anna Schoenecker and Martha Miller; stepdaughter, Amelia Rundell; and two nephews.

Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Church of the Holy Cross, with Father Joseph Eckberg officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Cross, or Hospice of Reno County, both in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson KS 67501.
