Christy C. "Chris" Miller, 89, died April 30, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Reno County, the son of Chris A. and Polly L. Wingard Miller. He was a lifetime resident of Hutchinson.
He retired from the City of Hutchinson Engineering Department, working for the city for 34 years until retiring in 1987. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Lysle Rishel American Legion Post No. 68. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II.
On May 10, 1946, he married Robbie Gaynell Majure in Decatur, Miss. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Freeman Lance Miller, MD, of Mission Hills; daughter, Brenda G. Miller Shaffer and husband Ron, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stephanie Shaffer Dieterich and husband David of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Chris Shaffer, Gilbert, Ariz., Emily Miller, Seattle, Wash., and Jacob Miller, MD, Kansas City, Mo.; one great-grandchild, Cade Dieterich, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and sister, Katie Gingerich Crow, Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey, Harley, and Bill Miller; sister, Lizzie Troyer; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Allphin Miller, MD.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, with Pastor Stephen Taylor officiating. Friends may call 1 to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.
