Obituary

Chuck Frankenfeld, 68, died May 5, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born June 27, 1940, in Manhattan, to Justus Carl and Margaret W. Weege Frankenfeld. He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1958, received his degree in Sociology from Kansas State University in 1962, and his Masters in Social Work from the University of Kansas in 1964.

He was a Professor of Social Work at Fort Hays State University and a social worker at Larned State Hospital.

In 1993, he received the Social Service Provider of the Year from the University of Kansas and in 2008 he received the Social Worker of the Year from Larned State Hospital.

Survivors include: daughters, Beth Akins and husband Chris, Hutchinson, Kim Luke and husband Jeff, Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Wyatt and Colby Akins, and Jason and Jessie Luke; brother, John, Howell, N.J.; and sister, Gay Gauch, Tampa, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday May 22, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Chuck Frankenfeld Memorial Fund for a tree and bench to be placed at the State Hospital lawn, or the Pawnee County Humane Society, or the Larned Public Library, all in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
