Clair D. Hyter, 94, died Nov. 9, 2006 at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson.
He was born March 29, 1912 in Hutchinson, the son of Harry A. and Elizabeth Hoerr Hyter. He graduated from Hutchinson High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College and the University of Kansas, and graduated from the Washburn School of Law in 1938. A lifetime Hutchinson resident he practiced law until 1964, then became the President of the former Central Plains Insurance Co., then worked as a consultant for Town and Country Insurance Co., retiring in 1994.
He belonged to Grace Episcopal Church.
On July 13, 1940, he married Margaret K. Kilburn in Hutchinson. She died May 21, 1962. On June 29, 1964 he married May A. "Maisie" Shaffer in Hutchinson. She died June 1, 1995.
Survivors include: a son, Charles K., Hutchinson; a sister Rachel Clark, Overland Park; three grandchildren, Betsy Sullivan and her husband Sean, Chicago, Weston K. and his wife Yami, Mill Valley, Calif. and Stephen D. and his wife Janelle, Corvallis, Ore.; and five great granddaughters, Clare, Shannon, Brigid, Xara and Stella.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; and a brother, Sam Hyter.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson with the Rev. Michael P. Milliken presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Grace Episcopal Church or to the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, both in care of the funeral home.
