Clara Elizabeth Horton, 97, died Jan. 17, 2006, at Hospice House.
She was born Jan. 21, 1908, in Emporia, the daughter of Aaron Ramey and Olive Biddison Moore. She graduated from Emporia High School and Emporia State Teacher's College. A longtime Hutchinson resident, she was a homemaker and former school teacher in South Carolina.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Salt City Campers and Hikers, Home Extension Unit, American Association of University Women, Ladies Circle of the Church, United Methodist Women and was a charter member of the Reno Choral Society Inc.
On Nov. 6, 1936, she married Vernon Alfred Horton Sr. He died in August 1990.
Survivors include: a son, Edward, Caulfield, Mo., and Vernon Jr., Hutchinson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Eugene Horton; and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
