Clare Ward, 81, died Sept. 26, 2010, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.
She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Wichita, to King Clare and Edna Queen Porter Stanley.
She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1947, and attended Lindwood College, St. Charles, Mo., and Northwestern College, Alva, Okla.
Clare was a den mother for Cub Scouts and an assistant Girl Scout leader. She was active in the PTA and a member of the Reddi-Comm CB Club. Clare belonged to Reno County, Kansas, United States and international genealogical societies and the Kansas Historical Society. She was also a member of the Elmdale Community and was a Red Hat Lady.
On Feb. 12. 1950, Clare married Marvin W. Ward in Alva, Okla. He survives.
Other survivors include: children, Nancy Ward and husband Jim, Las Vegas, Steve Ward and wife Lucinda, Hutchinson, David Ward and wife Cindy, Hutchinson, Kathy Ward, Overland Park, Kan., Beth Howard and husband Dale, Hutchinson, Jeanne Julian and husband Mike, Inman; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Hall, Wichita, and Linda Higgins and husband John, Norman, Okla.; sister-in-law, Joyce Zerger and husband Ben, South Hutchinson.
Clare was preceded in death by her parents, King Stanley and Edna Horn.
Funeral will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Ron Mandeville officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
Clare's family suggests memorials be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
