Obituary

Clarence Thomas "C.T." Thayer Jr., 80, South Hutchinson, died Aug. 19, 2010, at Mennonite Manor in South Hutchinson.

He was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Hutchinson, the son of Clarence T., Sr. and Helen Marie Breidenstein Thayer.

He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1947. He was a self-employed plumbing, air-conditioning and heating technician and also was a self-employed contractor for the U.S. Weather Bureau and the Federal Aviation Agency, traveling extensively across the eastern and northern United States. He also enjoyed being a licensed private pilot.

He was a member of Walnut and Campbell Church of Christ, the Hutchinson Loyal Order of Moose #982, where he was a past officer, and was a former member of the Hutchinson Ambucs.

Survivors include: his daughters, Judy Henry and husband Greg, Hutchinson, Trudy Zimmerman and husband Bill, Nickerson, and Cathy Schmitt and husband Gary, Wichita; a brother, Ed Thayer and wife Pat, Arlington; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. A register book can be signed from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or The Wichita Children's Home, both sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
