Clifford D. Rice, 86, died Nov. 7, 2010, at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Clifford Dewey and Weenonah Garlock Rice. His biological father died when he was still very young and he was raised by his stepfather, Earl C. Westcott.

He graduated from Mason City High School, Mason City, Iowa, and received a BA in business from the University of Minnesota. He retired as retail sales manager for Target Co., also having managed the original Target store in Roseville, Minn.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: sons, Steve Rice and wife Susan, Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Justin Rice, Wichita; daughters, Anne Gastineau and husband Dennis, Byron, Minn., Kay Francis and husband Bob, Sodus, Mich., and Julie Rice, Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and stepfather, Earl C. Westcott, grandson, Brett Francis, and sister, Idell.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Jerry Foust presiding. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, in Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, at Fort Riley, Manhattan. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
