Clyde Richard Woolfolk Sr., died Nov. 29, 2013, at the Thorne Center, Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, Kan. He was undergoing recuperation from surgery to repair a broken hip suffered on Oct. 27, 2013.

He was born April 21, 1925, to Samuel Snowden Woolfolk and Inez Viola (Yoho) Woolfolk, of rural Pratt County in the Pratt County Hospital on Iuka Street.

He was the youngest of seven children. Ruth Hudspeth, Beula Waggener, Clay David Woolfolk, Pearl Sprigg and Paul Snowden Woolfolk all preceded him in death. Dora Smith of Lawrence, Kan., survives.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, Kan. Graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, Kan. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Clyde graduated from Pratt High School in the class of 1942, moving to Protection, Kan., to farm with his brother Clay. In late 1943, Clyde volunteered for service in the U.S. Army to take the place of a married man from Comanche County with three kids, who would otherwise have been drafted. In May 1944, Clyde was inducted into the Army; he attended Air-Defense Artillery training at Ft Stewart, Ga., and was then reassigned to Ft Stewart, Ga., for infantry training. Upon completion of training, his unit was shipped to Scotland, then England and arrived in LaHarve, France. His unit moved by train and truck to Belgium, where they marched through the country to replace elements of the 82nd Airborne Division in the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Eve 1944. Clyde was discharged in May 1946, after two years in the military.

Clyde married Emma Josephine (Jo) McDonald on Sept. 18, 1944, in Wichita, Kan., while on furlough. They had two sons Clyde Richard (Rick) Woolfolk Jr. and Donald Douglas Woolfolk. She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 1965. He married Frances Bonita (Richards) in December 1966; they divorced in 1972. He adopted her daughter, Miriam in 1965. Clyde married Patience (Hodgson) Coffey on June 16, 1973. Pat had one son, Jerald Garmin Porter. She preceded Clyde in death on Nov. 24, 2009.

Clyde farmed for several years on the family farm five miles north of Coats. He went to work for the Kansas Grain Inspection Department in 1956, as a warehouse grain inspector. In 1962, Clyde became a Warehouse Auditor for the Commodity Credit Corporation, U.S. Department of Agriculture. During his career, he covered 28 states, mostly west of the Mississippi River, retiring in 1993 as a five state supervisor.

Clyde was active in the Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees, and has served in multiple capacities on the Endowment Foundation Board of Trustees, the Administrative Council, the Finance Committee and Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the DUO Class.

Clyde was a 32nd Degree Mason, was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. He was also active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) as both the local Chapter President and at the state level as Area IV Vice-President.

He is survived by his sister, Dora Smith of Lawrence, Kan.; son, Rick Woolfolk of Denton, Texas; three step-grandsons, Thomas A Callaway and wife Paige (Paris, Texas), James M. Callaway and wife Jana (Paris, Texas), and Timothy M. Callaway and wife Aly (Krum, Texas); son, Don Woolfolk and wife Wendy and his step-granddaughter, Haley Rodriguez; grandson, Jackson Clyde Woolfolk of San Diego, Calif.; stepson, Jerald Garman Porter and wife Alicia of Justin, Texas and step-granddaughter, Kristen Porter of Brisbane, Australia; four great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and 17 nieces and nephews also survive.
