Conrad Ray Odell, 79, died Aug. 28, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 7, 1937, in Ames, Okla., the son of Oscar and Birdene (Miles) Odell.
Conrad graduated from Ames High School in 1955, and served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1958. He was a parish member of Church of the Holy Cross and was a member of Knights of Columbus, Lyons.
In 1958, he married Loni Branson. They were divorced in 1967. They had a daughter, Debbie Odell Nerich. Conrad later married Mary Gillen Harbert on Nov. 13, 1971, in Emporia. They moved to Lyons in 1974.
He went to work for Branson Truck Line, Inc., of Lyons in 1965. The Bransons offered to sell him the business in 1979. He owned and operated the business until 1998, and served as president of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association in 1983. After retiring, he and Mary moved to the Highlands in Hutchinson. Mary passed away on Nov. 13, 1999.
Conrad later married Cheryl Cuckler on Jan. 6, 2001, in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Jeff Harbert (Christy) of South Hutchinson, and Jason Odell of Hutchinson; daughter, Pam Showalter of Lyons; stepson, Shawn Dressman and stepdaughter, Danae Wallace (Rob), both of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Shane and Neysa Nerich of Illinois, Briley and Savana Harbert of South Hutchinson, Ian Odell of Hutchinson; step-grandchildren, Rylee and Reis Wallace, Brayden and Ava Dressman, all of Hutchinson; three great-grandchildren; brother, Shelby Odell (Bonnie) of Denver, Colo.; sister, Biddy Kupke (Tom) of Tulsa, Okla.; three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Debbie Odell Nerich.
Parish rosary will be 10 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Hutchinson, with Father Roger Lumbre presiding. Burial will follow in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
