Cora Lou "Corky" Thayer Boyd, 90, died Sept. 13, 2015, at Larksfield Place in Wichita. She was born April 27, 1925, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Llewellyn T. and Eula E. (Brown) Child. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School and attended Smith College and the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Corky married Edwin E. "Chub" Thayer Aug. 19, 1946, in Great Bend. He died Sept. 25, 1993. She then married Rees E. Dilger. He died Sept. 28, 2007. On Oct. 25, 2008, she married James R. Boyd in Wichita. He survives.
Corky was a dog lover and trainer extraordinaire. She was an avid golfer, tennis player, reader and was a Life Master duplicate bridge player. Corky loved her many dear friends, several of whom were from childhood. She also enjoyed spending time with the Shopper's Club at PDCC and socializing with her many, many duplicate bridge friends. A big part of her love of bridge was helping others new to the game, learning the many strategies, tactics and details of scoring. Her clever wit, humor and funny quips will be sorely missed by all.
She is survived by: husband, Jim; his children, Martha Gregg, Mike Boyd and Tom Boyd and their families; son, Mike Thayer of Hutchinson; daughters, Jane McKee of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Susan Kienzle of Hutchinson; stepson, Mike Dilger; sister, Julia Olsen of Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Marcella McKee, Jacob and Daniel Thayer; and several nieces and a nephew.
