Obituary

PRETTY PRAIRIE - Curtis E. Goering, 75, of Pretty Prairie, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 16, 2012, at Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie.

He was born April 27, 1937, to Edwin J. "Slim" and Hilda Schwartz Goering in Elyria, McPherson County, Kan.

He moved with his family to Pretty Prairie at the age of five, and lived the rest of his life there. He attended school in Pretty Prairie and graduated from high school in 1956. Curtis was a member of the First Mennonite Church at Pretty Prairie and was a farmer. He also worked at Kauffman Seed Co. in Haven, for the City of Pretty Prairie, and Hutchinson Salt Mine.

Curtis married Mildred Hammar on Dec. 22, 1984, in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sisters, Virleen Unruh and her husband Fred of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and Janice Unruh of Hesston; five nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Goering; and a brother-in-law, Marlow H. Unruh.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the First Mennonite Church at Pretty Prairie, with Pastors Lester Zook and Larry Wedel presiding. Burial will be in the First Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
