Obituary

Dale Horn was a man who loved life. He lived each day to the fullest, until he passed away June 29, 2019, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. Dale was 82. He was born August 29, 1936, in Great Bend, the son of Norman and Helen (File) Horn.

He was a 1954 graduate of Great Bend High School. He then attended Kansas Barber College, Wichita, and worked as a barber in Great Bend for 10 years.

Dale took on the challenge of a new profession in 1969 when he moved to Hutchinson to become a Pizza Hut franchise owner. He operated Pizza Huts in Hutchinson, Salina, and Emporia for the next 21 years. The business was sold in 1990.

Selling the business made time for Dale to pursue his many interests. He biked across Kansas, rode his motorcycle across the United States, Mexico, and New Zealand. Dale supported all things at Hutchinson Community College, especially the national basketball and track events, where he volunteered. He also raced with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Dale was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, 'Show Me The Money' Investment Club, Prairie Pups Motorcycle Club, HCC Quarterback Club, and his beloved coffee group.

Dale married Sandra Hays in Great Bend in 1954. They were married for 30 years. He later married Jane Frost Taylor November 18, 1994, in Steamboat Springs, CO. They shared many amazing trips during their 24 years of marriage. Dale is survived by: wife, Jane of the home; son, Mike Horn and wife LaVon of Vail, CO; stepchildren, Leigh Taylor Harders and husband Mike of Ottawa Hills, OH, Ian Taylor and wife Katie of Shawnee, KS; six grandchildren, Will and Wyatt Horn, Josephine and Henry Harders, Aidan and Declan Taylor; brother, Jack Horn and wife Gaye of Wichita; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Mike's mother, Sandra Hays.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Drive, Hutchinson, with Father J. Ted Blakley and The Right Reverend Michael P. Milliken, Bishop Assisting for Western Kansas. Friends can sign the register book at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to the Hutchinson Community College Endowment Association or Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS, 67501.
