Dale A. Hughes' Obituary
Dale A. Hughes, 71, of Hutchinson died May 21, 2008, at the Hutchinson Hospital. He was born April 29, 1937, at Rockland, Maine, the son of Hugh J. and Dorothy Rich Hughes.
He retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant, and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After his time in the military he worked for Boeing where he was a purchaser for the International Space Station in Houston, Texas.
He was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church and also attended Tenth Ave. United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 612 and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68 both of Hutchinson.
On Sept. 6, 1958 he married Carol L. Thomas. She died Feb. 25, 2003. He married Jan Bretz Nov. 20, 2004. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son Sean Hughes and wife Jenny of Hutchinson; daughter Denise Miller and husband Monte of Greenville, North Carolina; step-son Matt Bretz and wife Amy of Hutchinson; two step-daughters, Dr. Reverend Robin McGonigle and husband Eric of Wichita, and Hilary Nikkel and husband Tim of Hutchinson, two sisters; Nancy Crockett of Owls Head, Maine and Margaret "Boo" Fish of Spruce Head, Maine; 10 grandchildren; Dakota and Wyatt Hughes, Erin, Adam and Ian McGonigle, Lauren and Hannah Bretz, Blaize Hogan, Kyler Nikkel and Darrien Ellsworth.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter Marlee Bretz and a brother Jack Hughes.
Celebration of Life service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Alan Stambaugh presiding. Parish Rosary will be 6 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Father Stuart M. Smeltzer presiding. Graveside Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fairlawn Burial Park, with military rites conducted by McConnell Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday all at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Teresa's or the grandchildren Educational Fund in care of Elliott Mortuary.
