Dale Williams Lewis was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Lane County, Kan., the son of Estella Williams and Charles Wesley Lewis.

He grew up on a farm attending Prairie Home Country School and graduated from Dighton High School in 1941. He entered the U.S. Navy in Jan. of 1943. He was a member of the 88th Construction Battalion with the rank of Ship Fitter First Class. His outfit built airstrips on various islands in the South Pacific. He was discharged in January 1946.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Monroe Aug. 4, 1946, at Dighton. To this union was born three children, Daleen, Brian and Jay.

They moved to Hutchinson in Jan. of 1960, where he was employed by Parrott-Hodnett as an appliance service technician. He later worked for Sears. In 1980, he started his own business, Lewis Appliance Service and continued until his retirement in December 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 67 1/2 years, Mildred; children, Daleen (Bill) Maxwell of Dallas, Brian (Shirley) Lewis of Wichita, and Jay Lewis of Maize; five grandchildren, six step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren; and sister, Wanda Heronomus of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ivan, Dean, Lyle, and Glenn; and five half-brothers and sisters.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Reverend Mike McGuire and Reverend Jim Rhaesa presiding. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
