Obituary

Dale Eugene Sturgeon, 71, passed away at his home in Hutchinson, Nov. 20, 2010.

He was born June 26, 1939, in Hutchinson, to Lowell Eugene Sturgeon and Wilma Alice Herren Sturgeon.

Dale graduated from Nickerson High School in 1957, and received a BS in Business Administration from Kansas State University, where he graduated in 1962 as a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, Professional Business Fraternity.

He enjoyed a life-long career in business ventures, and retired from the Kansas Department of Corrections as Safety and Health Specialist on March 7, 2008, after 19 years of service. Always taking an active interest in his country, community, his family, friends, and colleagues, Dale was a life-time member of the Kansas State University Alumni Association, Kansas State Historical Society, a member of the Hutchinson Area Chamber of Commerce, Central Kansas Polio Survivor Support Group, Reno County Cat Backers, NRA, Kansas Cosmosphere and Community Concerts, among others.

Survivors include: mother and step-father, Wilma and Bruce Wilson, Hutchinson; sisters, Judy Wiesenthal, El Paso, Texas, and Elaine Cloyd of Hutchinson; stepbrothers, Clarence Wilson and wife Pat, and Kenneth Wilson and wife Shirley of Hutchinson; stepsister, Rosanne Wilson of Topeka; four nephews, Rex, Carl and Mark Wiesenthal of Texas and Brian Cloyd of Lawrence; and several step-nephews and step-nieces, other cherished family members and wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Sturgeon, and brother-in-law, Alvin Wiesenthal.

Service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Phil Fischer officiating. Burial will be in Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the family greeting friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the Central Kansas Polio Survivor Support Group, PKD Foundation, or the Hutchinson Cosmosphere in care of Elliott Mortuary.
