Obituary

Daniel Kauffman, 95, of South Hutchinson, went to be with his blessed Lord in the Hospice Room at Mennonite Manor on Sept. 3, 2011. Daniel was born Aug. 3, 1916, in rural Hutchinson.
He loved learning and was self-educated after grade 8, becoming an ordained pastor in August of 1946 and bishop in 1951. He served 35 years in Cherry Box, Mo., as a pastor. During that time he was also overseer of the Missouri Mennonite Churches and served on the Five-State Conference Committee, often as Moderator, as well as on the Missouri State CROP Committee. After his retirement (between 1981 and 1986), he served five years as interim pastor at six different churches. From 1988 to 1998, he served three-fourths time as a chaplain at Mennonite Manor.

On June 4, 1939, he married Katie Yutzy at Yoder, Kan. They had eight children, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Katie went to her eternal reward in May of 1992. Twin children, Maynard and Alice, and a grandson preceded him in death. Daniel married Edna V. Miller on Dec. 17, 1994, in Kalona, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Edna; and six children, Larry (Debbie) Kauffman of Arlington, Texas, Emma (Keith) Swartz of Harrisonville, Mo., John (Reen) Kauffman of Excello, Mo., Mary (Phil) Mininger of Paoli, Ind., Barb (Merlin) Weber of South Hutchinson, and Daniel (Shelley) Kauffman of rural Hutchinson.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson. There will be two services: the first service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Mennonite Manor Chapel, and the second service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at South Hutchinson Mennonite Church. Pastors Peter Hartman, Todd Schossler, Eric Miller and Howard Wagler will be presiding. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery.
