Darlene A. Detwiler, 85, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center on the Via Christi St. Francis Campus, Wichita. She was born January 6, 1933, in Smith County, Kansas, to Allen and Hilma (Drotts) Detwiler.
Darlene graduated from Smith Center High School. She received her nursing degree, and for 10 years Darlene worked as a missionary nurse in Kenya, Africa. She then worked as a registered nurse at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. After retirement, Darlene bought a motor coach, which allowed her to travel and resume her missionary work as a SOWER (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready). Darlene loved her family and always kept in touch with them. She was a member of the Church of God in Anderson, Indiana.
Darlene is survived by: brothers, Dick Detwiler of Eureka, Loren Detwiler of Mesa, Arizona; sisters, Maxine Powell of Hutchinson, Carol Overmiller of Smith Center; 16 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dale Detwiler.
Cremation has taken place. Per Darlene's wishes, there will be no services. Memorials may be made to Brookdale of Hutchinson, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
