Obituary

David Merle Cooper, 84, died March 25, 2019, at his home in Abbyville.  He was born November 30, 1934, in Plevna, to William and Frances Ellen (Tuttle) Cooper.

David worked for Eaton Corporation as a Die Cast Operator, and retired as a Computer Numeric Controlled Machinist (CNC).  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  David was a member of the Abbyville Community Church.

On March 15, 1975, he married Florence (McCalla) Smith.  She died February 6, 2003.

David is survived by:  daughters, Frances Wonser (David) of Hutchinson, Darlene Gorney (Rick Rupp) of Sterling, Debra Cain of Great Bend; stepsons, Kenneth Smith, David Smith, Donald Smith; stepdaughters, Connie Bickel, Sharon Flemming; sister, Emma Collier of Medora; and 124 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; infant daughter, Ellen Cooper; grandson, Damien Cooper; sister, Vera Stiebens; and brother, Marvin Cooper.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Abbyville Community Church, 201 West Avenue G, Abbyville, with Pastor Dale Levering officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the David Merle Cooper Memorial Fund, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
