David Allen Jay, 63, passed away December 13, 2008, at his home in Hutchinson.
He was born January 4, 1945, in Monte Vista, Colo., to Robert and Thelma Jay.
David was a 1963, graduate of Friends Haviland Academy, Haviland, and earned a degree in Industrial Arts from Pittsburg State University in 1972.
Prior to attending Pittsburg State University, David did alternative military service at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, working as a psychiatric aide. David met his wife, Judy Ayers while in Pittsburg and they were married on May 24, 1975, in Oplis, KS.
David worked as a machinist at Krause Manufacturing and more than 20 years at Master Machine Tools. He was retired at the time of his death.
He was a member of Hutchinson Friends Church.
David enjoyed tinkering and fixing things up and working with his hands, often inventing his own tools.
David is survived by: his wife, Judy, of Hutchinson; four sons, Michael Jay of Hutchinson, Robert Jay of Hays, and Richard and Joshua Jay of Hutchinson. He is also survived by his parents, Robert A. and Thelma Jay of Newton; four sisters, Carol Scott of Midwest City, Okla., Becky Bates of Salina, Kathy Jay of Newton, and Connie Kalk of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by one aunt, four uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Friends Church, 1200 East 14th, with the Pastor Gary D. Getting presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.
