Obituary

David Allen Smiley, 78, of Hutchinson, died January 20, 2018, at Via Christi, Saint Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born November 10, 1939, in Hutchinson, the son of Roy and Elener (Mesker) Smiley.

David graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958 and served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. He worked for nearly 40 years for H & N Railroad. After his retirement, David worked part-time as a custodian for USD 308. He was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and Crossroads Christian Church.

On October 3, 1970, David married Ellen Ann Wintamute. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: daughters, Lisa Johnson and husband Chris, and Tricia Campbell and husband Dusty, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jacob Smiley, Kennedy Johnson, Joshua Campbell; great-granddaughter, Khloee Smith; sister, Phyllis Viegra of Hutchinson; brother, Jim Smiley of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Wayne Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. The casket will remain closed. Friends may sign the book from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 or Wounded Warriors, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
