Dean A. Deutsch, 83, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 2, 1931, at Susank, Kan., the son of Fred and Emelia (Bitter) Deutsch.
Dean was a graduate of Barton County Community College, a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Kansas Peace Officers Association and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, then continued with the Army Reserve and retired with 32 years of service. Dean had farmed in southern Russell County for 11 years. He retired as regional supervisor from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks in 1991, with 24 years of service.
On Oct. 17, 1954, he married Wilmetta Jane Nuss, in Milberger, Kan. She survives. Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Jenise Hamblin and John of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Galen and Stacey Deutsch, of Chase; mother-in-law, Rachel Nuss, of Russell; brother, Junior Deutsch, of Hoisington; four sisters, Helena Mai, of Great Bend, Theresa Dumler, and Irene Bitter, both of Hoisington, and Wilma Haesemeyer, of Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Shannon Braley, Colten Deutsch, and Alyssa Deutsch; and two step-grandsons, James and Erik Hamblin. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Armin, Raymond, Paul, Leland, Edwin, Edward and Robert.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 407 East 12th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Chad Trunkhill presiding. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Hoisington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
