Delbert L. "Doc" McCurdy, 84, died Aug. 16, 2006, at his home, Hutchinson.

He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Brownell, the son of Frank and Alice Grace Hair McCurdy. A graduate of Brownell High School in 1941, he attended Fort Hays State College. A Hutchinson resident, he was previous owner of McCurdy Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth Co. and retired owner of McCurdy Motors. He started in 1946 and retired after approximately 60 years in the automotive business.

He belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, and was a member of American Legion Post 0382, Brownell. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Yeoman 1st Class from 1942 to 1945.

On June 13, 1942, he married Mary M. Brentlinger in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Lonny and wife, Annette, Wichita, and Mark and wife, Julie, Hutchinson; a daughter, Carol and husband, Dr. Darrel Neuschafer, Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren, Scott and wife, Kerri McCurdy, Braden McCurdy, Megan McCurdy, Daric Neuschafer and wife, Jennifer, Brandon Neuschafer and wife, Jennifer, Dustin Neuschafer, Matthew McCurdy and wife, Kelly, Ryan McCurdy, Jason Love and Kaci Love; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Herbert; and his parents.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey and Pastor Loren Mai presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the church; please enter through north Curtis Street doors. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
