Obituary

Delbert Lyle Shultz, 82, went to do a small welding job for the Lord, Thursday, March 16, 2017, from Hospice House, Hutchinson. Born Aug. 9, 1934, at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson, he was the son of Harry and Electa (Strawn) Shultz of Abbyville.

The family moved to Yaggy Plantation near Hutchinson. Delbert attended Yaggy Grade School and Reno County High School, Nickerson. He was a lifetime member of Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, serving on committees, as an usher, greeter and member of the Homebuilder Sunday school class.

He began a long welding career in 1950 at Tom's Welding Service in Ellinwood. Delbert retired from Superior Boiler Works in 2000 after 32 years employment as a welder and plant supervisor. Upon retirement, he operated a small welding shop, D&S Welding.

Delbert joined in 60-plus years of marriage to Carole Ann Brown, (daughter of Leo W. and Gladys Gookins Brown), May 16, 1954, at Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church. She survives along with their children, KayAnn L. Shultz, Randel E. and wife Lynn, and Lorna Sue Wood, all of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Dorothy Wall of Hutchinson, Darrell (Bobbi) of Ellinwood, Darlene Eiland of Liberal, Doug (Sandy) of Nickerson and Diane Parsons (Dale) of Pratt. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dollie June Schiewe.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Jeff Goetzinger presiding. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in Mitchell Cemetery, Hutchinson. His register book will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
