Obituary

Dell Roger Paschal, 81, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on July 6, 2026.

Born on December 19, 1944, during the winter on a farmhouse four miles from Luray, Kansas, Dell was the son of Wallace F. Paschal and Dorothy Nichols Paschal. He grew up alongside his sister, Lynda, in Luray, St. John, and Hutchinson, Kansas, where extended family and close community ties helped shape their early lives. Those years on the Kansas prairie instilled in him the steady character, humility, and quiet strength that defined him throughout his life.

After childhood, Hutchinson became Dell's lifelong home. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1963 and attended Hutchinson Community College before continuing his education at the University of Kansas. His college years were interrupted by military service, but after completing his duty he returned to finish his degree in Business Administration.

Dell proudly served in the United States Army from August 30, 1967, to May 19, 1971, attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-5). As a member of the 101st Airborne Division, he completed two deployments to Vietnam from August 1968 to August 1969 and again from May 1970 to 1971. In recognition of his honorable and courageous service, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his active duty service, he continued in the Army Reserve until August 29, 1973.

After returning home to Hutchinson, Dell built a long and successful career in the financial industry, working with Wells Fargo, A.G. Edwards, and Anspacher & Associates. Though he often joked that he spent “too many years” in the business, he valued the relationships he built with clients and colleagues and took pride in helping others plan for their futures.

Dell remained deeply connected to his hometown. A devoted Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan, he rarely missed a game and always enjoyed spirited conversations about sports, politics, and current events. His love of basketball extended beyond watching—for 21 years he served as a team host at the NJCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship in Hutchinson, welcoming visiting teams and forming friendships that lasted long after the tournament ended. During tournament week, many in the community recognized Dell as one of the familiar faces helping greet teams and visitors arriving in Hutchinson.

Though disciplined and steady in many ways, those closest to him knew his soft heart and sharp sense of humor. He enjoyed good conversation, time with friends, and the freedom of the open road on his Harley until an accident eventually brought that chapter of his life to a close. The stories and memories from those years remained among his favorites.

Dell spent nearly his entire adult life in Hutchinson, building friendships, serving his community, and quietly supporting those around him. His loyalty to his hometown and the people in it never wavered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace F. Paschal and Dorothy Nichols Paschal, and his sister, Lynda S. Dalton, who passed away on June 15, 2012.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Bob Dalton of Denver, Colorado, his niece, Hollie Lubchenco and her husband, David, of Denver, Colorado; their children, Ren and Nina; his nephew, Bobby Dalton, of Denver, Colorado; and extended family members and friends who will remember his steady presence, humor, and generous spirit.

In keeping with his wishes, Dell chose cremation. His ashes will be laid to rest in the family plot near Luray, Kansas, returning to the Kansas prairie where his life first began.
