Obituary

SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Delmar C. Hill, 83, died Nov. 27, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born March 18, 1923, in Worcester, N.Y., the son of Fenton L. and Lillian Wellman Hill. He graduated from Worcester High School. A Hutchinson and South Hutchinson resident for the past 61 years, he was retired correctional officer for KSIR, and following retirement worked for T.E.C.H. as a driver for 10 years.

He belonged to South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, South Hutchinson Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years, and had served as fire chief, was leader of Boy Scout Troop No. 308, South Hutchinson city council member, and had served as mayor. He was an avid sports fan. He served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator during World War II.

On Aug. 4, 1945, he married Ruby F. Gaeddert in Jacksonville, Fla. She survives.

Survivors include: three sons, Larry, Hutchinson, Bruce and wife, Sue, Hutchinson, and Randy and wife, Susan, Kingman; a sister, Mary Hibbert, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Ambi Smith, Staci Hill and Robert Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Tori, Lily and Ella Smith.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Arthur; and two sisters, Ruth Lent and Laura Barrett.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, with Pastor Richard Zimmerman presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserve.
