Obituary

Delores Leona Ehly Moore was born July 29, 1921 at RR#1, Frederick, KS, the daughter of Leo P. Ehly and Frances Lena Novotny Ehly Charter. She attended grade school at Union Four in Rice County and graduated from Lyons High School in 1939. Delores resided 8 years in the San Francisco Bay Area; since 1954 (55 years) she had lived in Reno County, Kansas. Delores, age 89, died Sept. 24, 2010, at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas.


Delores attended Adela Hale Business College. She worked at American Salt Company, Lyons, Kansas, and at Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, KS. While employed as a civilian staff teletype operator at the Hutchinson Naval Air Station, Delores met Jerry Moore. Delores and Claude (Jerry) L. Moore were married Oct. 26, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska. She worked five years at the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland, California. Later as a homemaker and mother, Delores provided in-home cosmetics and skin care counseling as a Beauty Counselor cosmetics consultant. Delores was a member of Park Place Christian Church and historian for the Christian Disciples. She was a charter member of the Reno County Genealogical Society and a member of the Uvedale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Delores was a founding member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and held office in that organization for 50 years. She served as a nationally accredited Flower Show Judge and was granted Emeritus status. She was a member of the Hutchinson American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 Auxiliary.

Delores was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frances Novotny of Holyrood, KS, and Leo Ehly, Claflin, KS, and her three sisters, Bernice Frances Perry, Junction City, KS, Betty Jean Edwards, Hutchinson, KS, and Norma June Hartle, Lyons, KS. Survivors include: her husband, Claude (Jerry) L. Moore, Hutchinson, KS; her daughter, Adrienne Moore Baxter, Olathe, KS; and her granddaughter, Allegra Moore Baxter, Lawrence, KS; and nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Sharing of Delores' life and inurnment is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, 11 a.m. at Lyons Municipal Cemetery family gravesite. Ministers presiding will be the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery; son-in-law Thomas E. Baxter and Richard Brayton will also officiate. A gathering of friends and family at Camp WaJaTo will follow the gravesite service.
