Obituary

Delphia Mae "Dell" Scherer, 86, died May 11, 2006, at Golden Plains.

She was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Sylvia, the daughter of Abel and Amelia Augusta Snowbarger Vigil. She graduated in 1938 from Lyons High School, and attended cosmetology school in Wichita. A resident of Hutchinson since 1986, she retired in 1984 from Bank of America at Westchester, Calif.

She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and belonged to Countryside Lanes Bowling League. She also enjoyed square dancing and ballroom dancing.

Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia "Patty" Morgan and husband, Chip, West Chester, Pa.; two grandsons, C.J. and Justin Morgan; and nephews and nieces, Deanna Burnett and husband, Ross, Buhler, Shirley Sterling and husband, Ernie, Pretty Prairie, Jackie Ward, Chanute, Gary and Bob Sauers, Bob Nickels and Jason Newman, all of Kansas, Jeff and Jerry Newman, and Jackie MacKinnon, all of California, Diana Wheat and Rhonda Vigil, both of Kentucky, and Carol Ann Zimmerman, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Charles Vigil; and five sisters, Cella June Zimmerman, Ethel Sauers, Helen Newman, Frances Nickels and Mary Vigil.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Sara Blodgett presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County, in care of the funeral home.
