Dennis M. Podszus, 71, died Feb. 2, 2016, at Caney Nursing Home, Caney. He was born Oct. 20, 1944, in Westmoreland, to Carl and Hilda (Schultz) Podszus. The family moved to the farm near Arlington when he was a year old.
Dennis spent the rest of his life there and attended school in Arlington. He loved the outdoors and worked the family farm and was a yardman at the Central Livestock for 40 years. He sorted cattle and maintained the physical facilities, and learned electrical, plumbing, and welding skills. In his youth, he was an accomplished horseman. He would break and train horses and participated in the Arlington Circle A Riding Club. He also participated in area rodeos and organized weekend rides and camp-outs for the club.
He is survived by: sisters, Helen Furgason of Hutchinson, Sandra Cameron of Pocatello, Idaho; nephews, Ryan and Douglas Cameron of Idaho; uncle, Harry Podszus of Joplin, Mo.; cousins, Carolan McFarland, Nancy Housewright, Gerald Hartke, Rodney Podszus, Steve Podszus, and John Podszus. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at Arlington Amish Mennonite Church, 15611 W. Arlington Rd., with Arlen Mast and Freeman Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with family to receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
