Obituary

Dick Currie, 87, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  He was born May 27, 1931, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Charles and Lahoma (Prichard) Currie.

Dick graduated from Shawnee High School, Shawnee, Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma A & M University.  He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.  Dick was owner of Architectural Millwork, Inc. for 30 years.  In addition, he enjoyed raising Charolais cattle.  Dick loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.  He was also a mentor to many individuals in the community.  Dick was a member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and past-president of Architectural Woodwork Institute, of which he was instrumental in creating the quality standards of millworking that are still employed today.

On May 24, 1975, he married Connie B. Miller in Hutchinson.  They shared over 43 years of marriage.

Dick is survived by:  wife, Connie of Hutchinson; daughter, Leigh Currie-Nerren and husband Randy of Lindale, Texas; Godson, Brandon Ewing of Surprise, Arizona; brothers, Tom Currie and wife Pat, Harry Currie and wife Joan, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Frank Miller and wife Debbie of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and  sister-in-law, Judy Poovey and husband John of Loveland, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; son, Sam Currie; son-in-law, Mike Miller; and his beloved kitty, Salem Matthew.

Cremation has taken place and per Dick's wishes, there will be no service.  Friends may sign the book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday through Saturday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.  The family wishes to thank Dick's caregivers, Sandy B., Tammy D., Terri G., Char S., Robert C., and Ken and Joy W., for all their love and support given to him the past two years.
