Obituary

Dillard O. Hamby, 86, died Friday, April 8, 2011. He was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Laverne, Okla., the son of Otis Hamby and Sylva Cochran Hamby Johnson. He was a longtime Nickerson resident, a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson, and a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater. Dillard was a Conoco service station owner and mechanic.



On Dec. 21, 1946, he married Elsa Mae Bradsher in Tonkawa, Okla. She survives. Other survivors include: their children and spouses, Bryan and Doris, Hutchinson, L. Cherie and Rick Kasper, Arlington, M. Kay and Rich Nagy, Nickerson, Marilyn and Mike Praw, Rockwood, Michigan; six grandchildren, David and Stephanie Hamby, Paul and Julie Hamby, Rachel and Bruce Brown, Jeff and Jennifer Kasper, Chad and Patty King, Emily Bibb; 13 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Logan Hamby, Preston, Kellyn and Breckyn Hamby, Asher, Lucy and Macy Brown, Kyleigh and Braden Kasper, Tristan Case, Chanel Rodriguez, and Zaden King.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, a brother, John, and two sisters, Frankie Johnson and Gertie Courtright.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at First Southern Baptist Church, 1201 East 23rd Avenue, with Pastor Ray Kempel officiating. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, with military honors rendered by the Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory.
