Obituary

D. K. "Bud" Havercroft, 90, of Hutchinson, died August 12, 2022, at Hospice House, surrounded by his tribe of "Girls". He was born February 11, 1932, in Bloom, Kansas, to Glen E. and Avice M. (Eisiminger) Havercroft. He was a member of Countryside Baptist Church.

Bud graduated from Partridge High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954. During his lifetime Bud worked a number of jobs. He retired from driving truck for Dillons.

Bud was a lifelong cowboy, rodeoing, breaking horses and ranching. In his early years of rodeoing, he competed in the rough stock events, then, as his family grew, he moved to the timed events and judging. Bud taught his girls to ride and compete in horse shows, rodeos, sports, and life. He will forever be remembered as the BEST "Girl Dad" ever!

On June 12, 1955, Bud married Helen R. Rush in Abbyville. They shared 64 years of marriage before her passing on September 2, 2019.

He is survived by: daughters, Shannon Lewis, Linda Thiessen, Patty Morris (Greg), Cindy Rowe (David); grandchildren, Sarah Gaynor (Tim), Anna Ohle, Jake Thiessen, Dustin Rowe, Cristyn Hansen (Wade), Scott Morris (Rachel), Amy Spexarth (Arlan); 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Havercroft; sister-in-law, Kathy Havercroft; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Bud was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Helen; brother, Willis Havercroft; sister, Lola Havercroft; and son-in-law, Brad Lewis.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Ron Kyker officiating. Burial will follow in Partridge Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday–Friday, with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.
