Obituary

Don Ivan Miller Sr., 87, died April 24, 2006, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

He was born Dec. 31, 1918, in rural Sylvia. His parents were Earl and Blanche Calhoun Miller. He attended Kansas School for the Deaf, Olathe, where he was a Basketball All American. A lifetime Reno County resident, he was a machinist for Cessna for 28 years, retiring June 24, 1983.

He belonged to Peace Creek Church of Christ, was a 50-year member of International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Lodge No. 1992, a lifetime member of Cessna Employees Club, Silver Topper Bowling League, was inducted into the Hutchinson Men's Bowling Hall of Fame on March 5, 1990, and belonged to the Pacific Coast Bowling Associations, the National Deaf Bowling Associations, Great Lake Bowling Associations and Central States Bowling Associations.

On Sept. 9, 1972, he married Millie Ann Long in Oklahoma City. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Don I. Jr. and wife, Melvina, Hutchinson, and Monty, Utah; a daughter, Patty Miller, Utah; three brothers, Bud and wife, Betty, Sylvia, Jerry and wife, Bev, Ft. Worth, Texas, and Ron and wife, Linda, Hutchinson; two sisters, Wanda Hofen and Pat Parker, both of Hutchinson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Coons and Millie Belden Colle; and a nephew, Scottie Miller.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Peace Creek Cemetery, rural Stafford, with Ernie Bishop presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
